Why choose Holmfirth Opticians?
State of the art eye clinic
We are proud to have the latest in sight testing and glasses dispensing equipment at Holmfirth Opticians. This includes retinal imaging and OCT scan technology, which allows us to provide a more detailed and thorough eye test. Please let us know when booking your appointment if you would like these extra tests done or call us for further information.
Comprehensive eye examinations
An eye test with us is twice the length of the industry average in the UK.
As part of our detailed and through eye test, we will take into account your individual visual requirements, and tailor our tests accordingly, ensuring you get the most thorough eye examination.
Exclusive niche & designer frames and sunglasses at Holmfirth Opticians
We have established relationships with some of the best handmade spectacle makers in the industry. Many of the frames we stock are exclusive to us in Holmfirth and Huddersfield, with only a handful of opticians in the UK carrying these collections. So if you are looking for frames that are different to your typical high street glasses (often mass produced frames) then we may be the right opticians for you.
Qualified Dispensing Opticians
Your glasses will be dispensed or supervised by a fully qualified dispensing optician. This is particularly important when dispensing complex prescriptions or varifocal lenses.
Eyewear styling consultation
Our unique approach to choosing glasses makes the whole process more enjoyable and easier for you. This allows us to define which glasses style, colour, and shape will be most suited for you while considering your face shape and colour of clothing you would normally wear. We have a limited number of eyewear consultations per week, so please call in advance.
Personalised and tailored service
Holmfirth Opticians offer a more personalised and tailored service, ensuring you get the most out of your consultation.

The intervals that you should have an eye test depend on several factors, such as family history, your general health and the current health of your eyes. Our Optometrists can advise on how regular your eye examinations should be.
A full eye examination will include an assessment of your vision, prescription check, binocular vision, muscle balance, eye pressure test, internal and external eye health examination. We will also perform any further examinations we feel are necessary.
An OCT machine will take scans of the back of your eyes. We usually perform two scans on each eye, one of the retina and another of the optic nerve. These scans can help detect early signs of eye diseases, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.
This depends on several factors, including your face shape, prescription, and personal preferences. Our team of opticians can help you find the perfect frames to suit your individual style. An eyewear styling consultation may help if you really struggle with choosing glasses.
Yes, you will need to make an appointment to have a full eye examination.
It is recommended that children have their first eye test at around six months old. However, this depends on the individual child and whether they show any signs of a vision problem. Speak to your optician if you have any concerns.
If your contact lenses feel uncomfortable, please do not continue wearing them and call us. We will most likely need to see you to assess the health of your external eye.
Here at Holmfirth Opticians, we provide a more detailed eye examination, which can take twice as long as the average UK eye test. Please allow at least 40 minutes for your eye examination, and a further 40 minutes to have your glasses dispensed if required.
