Comprehensive Eye Examinations

We offer comprehensive eye examinations that will check your vision and eye health. Our qualified optometrists can detect and diagnose eye health problems, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macula degeneration. Early detection of these eye diseases is crucial for preserving your vision.

During the eye examination, we will also discuss your visual needs and offer advice on the most suitable type of glasses or contact lenses for you if required. We will only prescribe new glasses if you would benefit from them and keep a large stock of frames, ranging from budget to exclusive designer frames.

What happens during your eye test appointment ?

A lot of our patients come to us for our comprehensive eye examinations. The appointment time we allocate for each adult patient is longer than the industry average of 20 minutes in England. This extra time allows our optometrists to perform a more detailed and thorough eye examination. The longer appointment time also means you will never be rushed.

A comprehensive eye exam at Holmfirth Opticians generally includes the following tests:

– Visual acuity test – This test measures how well you can see at different distances.

– Refraction test – This test determines the prescription for glasses or contact lenses, if necessary.

– External eye health assessment – Our opticians will check for any signs of external eye health problems.

– Internal eye health assessment – We will assess the internal anatomy of your eyes, to help diagnose diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macula degeneration.

OCT eye exam available

Many of our patients choose to have the extra OCT scans done. These further examinations go beyond what is expected from a standard eye test.

OCT scans are painless, non-invasive, and only take a few minutes. If you have any concerns about your vision or want an OCT scan done, please book an eye test appointment with us.

What is an OCT scan?

OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography. It is a medical imaging technique used to take cross-sectional scans of the retina and the optic nerve head. These scans provide valuable information to the Optometrist regarding the health of your eyes. They can detect certain eye diseases such as glaucoma and macula degeneration earlier than with a standard eye test alone.

How is it different from a regular eye exam

Standard eye exams can only tell you so much about the health of your eyes. An OCT scan goes beyond what is possible with a regular exam. It can provide information on the thickness of the retina, the health of the optic nerve, and assess how well the macula is functioning. This information can be very valuable in detecting certain diseases at an earlier stage.

Don’t Forget To Have Regular Eye Examinations

It is important to have regular eye tests, even if you don’t think you have any problems with your vision. Eye health problems can develop gradually over time, so it’s important to get checked out regularly.

A comprehensive eye examination can detect eye diseases earlier and before they cause any symptoms.
